Tirana (locals: Tirona ) is the capital of the district and the district with the same name and the capital of the Republic of Albania. Tirana is located in the center of Albania, about 35 km east of Durres and about 40 km north-west of Portland , nestled in a valley surrounded by Dajti Mali to the east, hills Kërrabës and Sauk south, hills Vaqarr and Yzberisht in Kamza west and north.
The city was founded in 1614 by Sulejman Pasha Bargjini, originating from the village of Mullet and was mentioned for the first time Tirana’s name is mentioned in 1418 in a Venetian document. Tirana became the temporary capital of Albania on 9 February 1920 by the Congress of Lushnja and National Council members entered the city on 11 February 1920. Tirana eventually was declared the capital of Albania in 1925 by the Constitutional Assembly .
The city of Tirana is the largest city of Albania and the largest economic, administrative, political, industrial, media, academic, social, and cultural center of the country. The city is only 17 km from the airport “Mother Teresa”, the only international airport in Albania known and Rinas name. This airport is enter the most important links between Albania and the rest of the world. Tirana is located at coordinates 41.33 degrees north and 19.82 degrees east.

Geography

Tirana’s average altitude is 110 meters (360 ft) above sea level and its highest point measures 1,828 m (5,997.38 ft) at Mali me Gropa. The city is mostly surrounded by hills, with Dajti Mountain on the east and a slight valley opening on the north-west overlooking the Adriatic Sea in the distance. The Tiranë river also runs through the city, whereas the Lanë river is a brook. The city borders the surrounding municipalities of Paskuqan, Dajt, Farkë, Vaqarr, Kashar, and Kamëz.

The city has four artificial lakes: the Tirana Artificial Lake around which was built the Big Park, Paskuqani Lake, Farka Lake, and Tufina Lake.

Tirana is on the same parallel as Naples, Madrid, Istanbul, and New York, and on the same meridian as Budapest and Kraków.

History

Registration of land the city was under Ottoman occupation in the years 1431 – 1432 . Records from the first land registrations under the Ottomans in 1431–32 show that Tirana consisted of 60 inhabited areas, with nearly 2,028 houses and 7,300 inhabitants. Tirana was founded in 1614 by Sulejman Pasha Bargjini Mullet village, which we first built a mosque , a baking oven and a hammam . Two centuries later the town was host family Toptani of Kruja .
